An officer from the New Canaan Police Department on patrol at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4 stopped a vehicle driven by Norwalk resident Steve Louis Barona for having illegally tinted windows.
During the subsequent traffic stop, while speaking with Barona, the officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, in which Aziz Estaban Velez, 24, of Norwalk, was a passenger.
According to police, the subsequent investigation led to the discovery of approximately one pound of marijuana inside the vehicle. Both Velez and Barona were taken into custody and arrested for possession with intent to sell marijuana.
Following their arraignment, both men posted $5,000 and were released. They are scheduled to appear back in court on Thursday, Aug. 15 to respond to the charges.
